Battle Royale: Who Should Benji Madden Fight Next?

(Credit: Benji Madden's Twitter)

When I first heard Good Charlotte's Benji Madden was set to box against former MTV VJ Riki Rachtman, my first thought was, "HUH?" followed by "WTF??" Followed, finally, by "AWESOME." Benji and Riki fought last Friday in Las Vegas, and Benji Madden knocked out the "Headbangers Ball" figurehead in 1 minute and 40 seconds. In other words, Rachtman got served!

If Benji's itching to get back in the ring any time soon, I can think of plenty of people I'd love to see him go toe-to-toe with, including the following potential human punching bags. More Madden boxing buddies after the jump!

Trace Cyrus: Now that Metro Station is no longer together, Trace has plenty of time to hit the jump and bulk up. Hell, who am I kidding? This guy weighs 90 pounds soaking wet. A fight between him and Madden wouldn't be a civil match -- it'd be an emo bloodbath.

John Mayer: By naming his new album Battle Studies, Mayer is basically telling his haters to come and get it -- and, based on his Playboy interview fallout, I'm guessing there's a big line forming to the right. Let's be honest, though: What everyone would really like to see is a rock 'em, sock 'em grudge match between Mayer and Jessica Simpson. Sadly, I wouldn't hold my breath for that one -- even though that's what I call must-see TV.

Kanye West: Kanye might not be the buffest dude in the hip-hop game, but he looks spry enough to fight Madden. On second thought, I feel like he might bust out some illegal moves if put in the ring. For example, Benji would go in for an uppercut, and Kanye would, like, throw a Chinese star from his pocket and then fly away on a rocket that bursts through the floor. In other words, this probably isn't a fair fight. Sorry, Benj. I care too much about you to risk hurting that tattooed punim.

Original Taking Back Sunday Lineup To Reunite?

(Credit: TakingBackSunday.com)

Yesterday, Taking Back Sunday bassist Matt Rubano and guitarist Matt Fazzi took to the band's official Web site to announce their departure from the group. In separate statements, both musicians expressed their deepest sadness about the situation and thanked the fans profusely for all their love and support.

"To Taking Back Sunday fans, there isn't anything I can say that will express the way I feel toward you," says Rubano. "It's literally been a dream come true and you were the cast of that dream. I am happy to have met and befriended so many of you. I will miss you all."

Fans' tears were barely dry when a series of creepy Twitter messages started to hint at the unexpected and nearly impossible -- that original TBS members guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper (who originally left the band in 2003 and soon teamed up to form Straylight Run, which announced their "indefinite hiatus" earlier this year) were rejoining the fold. Gasp!

Almost 15 hours ago, Nolan posted the following on his Tumblr: "My legal team has advised me not to comment at this time." Judging from his latest tweet, Cooper's lips were a little looser by saying, "I have a feeling things are about to get extremely weird ... "

No official statement has been made from TBS HQ. Stay tuned as this story develops! You know how we do.

Buzz Bites (3/29/10): Katy Perry Gets Slimed At Kids’ Choice Awards

+ It was all hijinks and shenanigans at the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday night. The highlight of the evening occured when Katy Perry, while presenting the award for Favorite Movie Actress to Miley Cyrus, got ambushed by some dreaded green slime. The "Hot N Cold" singer proceeded to chase Cyrus around on stage, but The Last Song star was spared a slimy hug, thanks to actor Jonah Hill. That's what friends are for. (Just Jared)

+ Adam Lambert fans won't have to wait long to hear new material from the American Idol runner-up. Well, that's not exactly true. During a UStream chat, the glam-pop singer revealed that he'll be releasing a remix EP on April 14. (MTV News)

+ Lady Gaga celebrated her 24th birthday Down Under and is, more than likely, pretty hungover. The "Monster" queen took to her Twitter account to tell her fans she was gonna spend her birthday at a dive bar and then promised "30 more years of writing music and videos." (I'm Not Obsessed)

+ Jay-Z brought his Blueprint 3 tour to Los Angeles over the weekend. The King of New York (sorry, Mr. Sinatra), rocked a sold-out Staples Center with help from openers Swizz Beatz, Young Jeezy and Trey Songz. Check out these photos from the night. (Idolator)

+ Is Beyonce with child? According to certain gossip sites, she is. But here's an interesting take on the whole situation, as well as a look at how gossip sausage is made. (Pop Eater)

+ Hayley Williams recently had some downtime from being on the road with Paramore so she decided to do what lots of people do in their downtime—record a cover of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and throw it up on the Internet. (Sound Of The City)

The 5 Best Kanye West Blog Rants… Of ALL TIME!

YO, WE ARE DEFINITELY ENTERING A NEW ERA OF KANYE WEST. MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE OF ALL THE HATING BUT I DOUBT IT BECAUSE KANYE WEST IS RUBBER AND HATERS ARE GLUE, ETC. BUT EVER SINCE THE WHOLE VMA DEBACLE PLANTED "I'MA LET YOU FINISH" INTO OUR LEXICON, KANYE HAS KEPT IT PRETTY LOW-KEY.

YEEZY IS IN HAWAII, WHICH IS A REAL CHILL PLACE TO HANG YOUR LOUIS VUITTON FEDORA, SAVE THE TSUNAMI WARNINGS, WHERE HE IS RECORDING THE FOLLOW-UP TO HIS SUPER EMO 808'S & HEARTBREAK. IS IT GOING TO BE ALL SLACK-KEY GUITAR AND MEDITATIVE YOGA? I DON'T KNOW! BUT I BET ALL THE WAVES-LAPPING-AGAINST-THE-COAST AND POI-EATING IS REALLY ZENNING HIM OUT.

BUT, AS YOU CAN TELL BY THE CAPS-LOCK, WE MISS OLD KANYE. SO WHILE WE WAIT FOR HIS NEW ALBUM, GOOD ASS JOB, LET'S LOOK BACK IN ANGER AT SOME OF HIS CLASSIC, IN THE RED BLOG RANTS.

1.) The Post-Bonaroo Meltdown: After drawing criticism for making fans wait late into the early morning for his performance at Bonnaroo in 2008, Kanye responded with measured with great vengeance and furious anger...towards his Mac Book Air.

2.) Kanye Vs. Twitter: In response to "losers making fake Kanye West Twitter accounts," Kanye went O-F-F on social media.

3.) Kanye West: Up In The Air: Kanye West was accused of being an in-flight diva. This made him so upset he actually wrote with caps lock OFF.

4.) Kanye Apologizes To Taylor: After making one of the most infamous uninvited stage appearances in MTV VMA history, Kanye apologized to Taylor Swift. Via his blog.

5.) Kanye Does Not Apologize For Wearing Fur: In a since-deleted post, Kanye went once more into the blog breach, giving PETA and the bird and generally saying "haters to the left" to anyone else who had a problem with he and girlfriend Amber Rose rocking fur at Fashion Week.

Buzz Bites (3/22/10): Ke$ha’s Sorry She Called Justin Bieber A Baybay

Damn, Ke$ha, do the words "give" "peace" and "a chance" ring any bells? First she mixes it up with Britney Spears. Now Ke$ha is trying to back off some not particularly harsh comments she made about Justin Bieber in Maxim. The "Tik Tok" singer could, at worst, be accused of being a little condescending to Bieber in her interview, joking, "“He’s a tiny little baby! I would’ve loved to push him around onstage in a carriage.” Not the worst thing ever, right? Well, she must have anticipated some serious Bieber blowback, because Ke$ha hit Twitter yesterday to apologize: "“dear justin b i am so sorry if my bad joke has hurt your feelings.u r obviously so talented andi would never mean to offend u.i think u r rad” (Idolator)

+ Green Day's American Idiot album spawned hits, certified the Bay Area punks as global rock superstars, and has been adapted for the Broadway stage. Now it appears that the 2004 concept album may have still more life in it, as Tom Hanks is in talks to pick up the film rights for the musical version. Hanks is no stranger to translating stage musicals to the silver screen. He produced the blockbuster film version of Mamma Mia in 2008. (MTV News)

+ In other movie news, Rihanna could be gearing up for a leap to the big screen. Rumor has it that the "Rude Boy" singer might be getting her wings, joining the likes of Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in playing one of the angels in a sequel to the 2003 film Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. (Limelife)

+ Radiohead are much too busy trying to save the world and reinvent the music industry to trouble themselves with such trivialities as horse racing. But that hasn't stopped one man from naming a three-year-old colt after the band and entering it into the Kentucky Derby. Radiohead, the horse, is getting 20-1 odds to win the "Run for the Roses." (Spinner)

+ India.Arie will not be hitting "replay" on Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video any time soon. The neo-soul singer recently took to her Twitter account to give some constructive criticism to Gaga and society at large. While she respects Gaga's creativity, India deems the video, "socially irresponsible," predicting, "It's not long before somebody does a straight NAKED video." (Crunk + Disorderly)

+ Britney and Jason still an item? Still, we stand by these guys Britney should date. Just in case. (Just Jared)

Song You Need To Know: Justin Bieber, ‘U Smile’

Twitter God and Ludacris mentor Justin Bieber is on a roll. I wish I could take him to a craps table and have him just stand next to me for luck. Except that would be illegal because he is 16. In any case, things are only going to get bigger and brighter for the Canadian heartthrob/pop sensation with his new release, My World 2.0, due out this time next week.

We've heard a few songs from My World 2.0 so far, including the shuffling R&B of "Never Let You Go" and the sugary pop of "Baby." Now we get a mid-tempo ballad in the form of "U Smile."

Justin's best songs always have one special ingredient: the juxtaposition of his innocent vocals with hard, hip-hop drums. Even on "U Smile," a piano-driven piece of pop, a solid rhythm still lies underneath.

"U Smile" holds a place close to Bieber's heart, as the young pop pinup recently tweeted, "I wrote it for all my fans who got me here. U took me from a small town in Canada to this amazing opportunity I am living now."

"U Smile" is currently available on iTunes. My World 2.0 is out March 23.

Why Justin Bieber Is Dominating Twitter

On any given day you can log on to Twitter and see any number of trending topics: #musicmonday, #dontyouhateitwhen, #howtheheckdoesgooglewavework and so on. But pretty much any time you log on, you're pretty much guaranteed to see one name in there, one person who never strays from the random thoughts of the millions of tweeters worldwide: Justin Bieber.

According to The Canadian Press (which is like the Associated Press ... except it's Canadian), Justin Bieber was the most tweeted about topic on the social networking/microblogging platform last week. And if that weren't enough, the "Baby" singer has been catching up with Twitter all-stars such as President Barack Obama and the (sadly) even more popular Ashton Kutcher in terms of followers, accruing 11,000 more per day on average.

According to Ingo Muschenetz of the Web traffic site What The Trend, even Bieber's detractors help him tighten his grip on the the collective-tweeting consciousness, "The haters ... tweet about the fact that he's trending, which only makes him trend higher." Catch-22, that hating business.

Still, not everyone has fallen under the Bieb's magical spell. Lily Allen recently tweeted, "i had no idea who this #justinbieber person was, just found out he's that kid that's always on the tv when im in the gym. he's about 5 right?" But she still tweeted about him! Even oblivious Brit pop stars can't help perpetuating Bieber's inevitable Twitter takeover. I, for one, welcome our new teen-pop overlord. The zeal of Justin Bieber fans (or, Bielibers) on Twitter is far more fun to watch than #thingscheaterssay.

Katy Perry Blasts Sky Ferreira On Twitter

Oh Katy Perry. Sky Ferreira! You two kiss and make up and play nicer! Aren't these two supposed to be friendies? Is that any way to talk to a friend? So, singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira (who's Katy Perry's labelmate!) Tweeted "Sorry, but how the f--- have some people heard songs off my album?" To which Katy Perry haughtily blasted a nasty retort, suggesting "Maybe u should stop sleeping with so many DJs." ICE! COLD! Is this a case of real-life girls behaving badly, or just some cheeky drumming up of publicity?

In case you're wondering what Sky Ferreira's sound's all about, think pouty electro-pop in the vein of Uffie (with whom she's collaborated), plus a little modern-day Blondie, met with a slightly poppier Bat For Lashes.
