Attention, Twi-hards! Your beloved literary goddess Stephenie Meyer has just announced the release of her latest novella, "The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella," so mark the following date on your calendar: June 5, 2010.
The 192-page tome will focus on the perspective of Bree Tanner, one of the newborn vampires in 'Eclipse' who is killed so shortly after being introduced. Some might find it odd that Meyer decided to focus an entire book on a pretty minor character, but there's a method to Meyer's madness.
According to a statement on her official Web site, "I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago -- before 'Twilight' was even released. Back then I was just editing 'Eclipse,' and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree's perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn."
Now, before you cap that Sharpie, you'll probably want to circle a couple more dates: June 7 - July 5. During that time period, Miss Meyer will actually be offering the novella for free download on the book's official Web site. Amidst all the excitement, try not to tear the head off your Edward Cullen body pillow. Haven't we seen enough bloodshed, people?
