Early Show’s Maggie Rodriguez & Erica Hill: Covergirls!

Early Show anchors Maggie Rodriguez and Erica Hill posed with American Baby editor-in-chief Dana Points as they unveiled the April issue of the magazine, which features Rodriguez and Hill — as well as their bumps — on Thursday in N.Y.C.

Both ladies are expecting their second children — and each is pregnant with a boy. Hill is due to deliver any day now, while Rodriguez is due July 1.

What’s the biggest change in your attitude towards pregnancy this time?

MR: I am a lot less stressed, although my first trimester was an ordeal. My daughter, Daniella, who’s 4, got H1N1. Then I came down with shingles in my eye and was hospitalized for six days. But I’m glad it was during my second pregnancy, because if it was during my first, I would have been more freaked out. Now I know how resilient babies are. I was on antivirals; I was on morphine. The doctors reassured me it was okay.

EH: The first time, it was scary to think I might never get my body back. When I was pregnant with Weston, who’s 3, I gained 50 pounds and it stressed me out. I told my doctor I was worried about gaining all that weight again. She said, “I’m not concerned with how much you gain; I’m happy to see that you lost it all, and when you got pregnant with number two, you were where you started with number one.

How else is the pregnancy different?

MR: Something that’s hard to admit is that this pregnancy doesn’t have the novelty of the first. I haven’t read as many books, and I haven’t written as much in my journal. I’ve been busy with my daughter. It’s made me feel as if I’ve been neglecting this baby in a way, because being pregnant isn’t so new.

EH: Yes! With Weston, I had a pregnancy book and would write stuff down all the time, but this time I haven’t written a single thing. But I know why we’re not doing it: We know what’s coming.

Right, and now that you’re no longer first-timers, what baby product do you feel you could skip?

MR: A swaddling blanket. I know how to swaddle now. This time, I want the bare minimum. But you can’t know that until you’ve been through it before.

EH: I can live without a wipe warmer. What happens when you’re out and you don’t have it? All you can say is, “Sorry buddy.”

With you both working and raising an older child, what’s fallen by the wayside?

MR: Sleep! During my first pregnancy, I worked a night shift and could stroll out of bed late.

EH: With the first, you can nap. But when you already have a child, you can’t. Exhausting!

Do you think this baby is going to be a lot different from your first child?

MR: I think so because of the different ways they behave in the womb. My daughter never kicked me; she was a quiet, serene, easy baby in the womb, and that’s how she is now. This one is always kicking. He’s going to play soccer.

EH: It’s funny to think about how they’ll be different because they’re the same sex. Mostly I’ve noticed what’s similar. They both like to stick a foot under my right rib and do the same dance moves.

Is the big sibling excited?

EH: I think Weston will be in for a shock once he realizes this little one is staying forever. We know it’s going to be an adjustment. But Weston is a sweet child — we’re in the process of moving, and he’ll say, “I want to save these toys for my baby brother.” It’s pretty sweet.

MR: I don’t forsee a lot of jealousy, because Daniella will be 5, and already I can see signs of her wanting to be a mommy. She asks, “Can we practice changing my baby brother on my doll?” And we do!

It’s hard to imagine loving another child as much as you love your first.

MR:I was worried about that, frankly. But the moment I went for my first ultrasound and saw that heart beating and that baby shape, I fell in love, and I realized I have plenty of love to give both.

EH: You give me chills when you talk about that. I felt the same way with our second: When I saw the screen, I thought, “Here is this miracle happening all over again.” Both my grandmother and mother tell me, “You are so worried about having enough love in your heart, but there’s no way you won’t have more love — you will!” When I get to that moment when I have two, I am so curious to see what it will be like and what my heart does. My heart wanted to explode with one!

What are you most looking forward to?

EH: Meeting him!

MR: Me too!

EH: Also, the moment the boys meet. To see my children together — I almost start crying just thinking about it. I can’t wait to see my son holding his little brother. It’s going to be an incredible moment.

MR: I was going to say the same exact thing.

Josh Turner: Touring With Sons Offers ‘Free Entertainment’

As Josh Turner heads out on tour for his latest album Haywire, there is one particular song — “I’ll Be There” — that probably won’t make the set list.

With lyrics that describe a father’s unwavering love for his children, the country crooner is the first to admit that the words “hit close to home” and strike a chord that he is not willing to explore on stage.

“It makes me think of myself as a daddy and when I’m up on that stage that’s the furthest thing from my mind because I try to separate the two,” Turner, 32, explains to The Boot.

“When I’m at home being a daddy, the last thing I’m thinking about is being an artist. It is two things that I never really put together.”

Despite the singer’s determination to keep his personal life separate from his career, with wife Jennifer 0n the keyboard, it’s much easier said than done!

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Turner says of his wife’s involvement. “Just having [her] right there on the road with me gives me a keyboard player and a background vocalist on stage and at the same time it gives me companionship.”

And with both mom and dad on stage, sons Hampton Otis, 3, and Colby Lynch, 8 months, are brought along for the ride.

“We have a nanny out on the road because we have to have somebody looking after them when we do sound check and everything else, but the boys are just free entertainment,” he kids. “It’s fun having them out there.”

Determined that their boys enjoy their childhood despite logging long hours on tour, the Turners hit up the local kid-friendly hot spots for a bit of family fun. Unfortunately, the cold weather — more often than not — puts a damper on their plans!

“A lot of times when we go somewhere where it’s really, really cold, it’s kind of hard to [do something fun], but normally when the weather is good, we try to get out and go to a zoo or a park or even just go out and take a walk,” he reveals, adding that Hampton’s interests gravitate towards aquariums or “anything with tractors or monster trucks.”

All their time together on the road is only temporary, according to Turner. Once Hampton is ready to start school, the family plans to make a few adjustments to their situation.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” the doting dad says. “We’re just taking it one day at a time. I want him to have that social development too and be able to submit to authority other than his parents.”

The screaming fans and crowd following has yet to phase Hampton, who simply loves listening to his dad’s music. And although the toddler would love nothing more than to join Turner on stage, the protective papa is quick to draw the line.

“We don’t allow that,” he states. “It’s mainly a privacy issue, but I know there is going to come a day when he’s old enough to make his own decisions.”

When that moment does arrive, should Hampton insist upon a future in music, Turner is prepared to support his son — despite his own feelings on the subject!

“If he wants to be a country singer and he shows me he’s serious about it, then we’ll go from there, but that’s definitely not something that I’m encouraging.”

Kelly Rutherford: New Moms Need More Support

Courtesy Working Mother

For many couples the biggest surprise of parenthood is the strain a new baby puts on their previously rock solid relationship.

Kelly Rutherford lived it — and learned from it — following the birth of Hermés Gustaf Daniel, 3.

“I saw red flags, but I was in love,” she tells Working Mother of ex-husband Daniel Giersch.

“We tried therapy. I stayed in the marriage as long as I could so that I could look at my son and say that I tried everything.”

Noting that new moms “often need their husband’s support more than they get it,” Rutherford says that if she does harbor any hard feelings she won’t make them known to her son.

“I want Hermes to know that he’s loved in both homes. I tell him every day, ‘Papa loves you.’”

It was Hermés and his sister Helena Grace, 9 months, who motivated the Gossip Girl star, 41, to end the marriage, however.

“I realized staying would have been unhealthy for the children,” she explains, clarifying that she is “certainly not advocating divorce.”

While it is “extraordinary to share your life with someone,” Rutherford notes that at the same time, “you need communication and respect.” She adds,

“If you’re not getting that, if you’re not getting support, if your partner isn’t honoring you, then you need to think about the fact that you’re setting that example for your kids.”

Click below to learn Rutherford’s greatest wish for Helena.

Since coming to that realization, the actress has experienced some lows, including an adverse custody ruling last year.

As a result Hermés currently splits his time 50-50 between his parents, while Helena is in a “step up” plan — spending most of her hours with mom now, with more time with dad as she grows older.

“A male judge who was retiring after spending his entire career in family law didn’t agree with me that it was important for Hermés to be able to bond with his baby sister,” Rutherford laments.

“I hope that as more women become judges — and as more divorced women become judges — the family courts will change.”

There have been high points as well, however, including a new-found self-confidence in her skills as a mom.

“I’m realizing what I’m capable of doing emotionally and physically — at 41 years old! It’s great. It gives my life as a mother a whole different meaning. I have more gratitude.”

Not surprisingly, Rutherford says that her greatest wish for Helena would be “that’s she’s loved — and powerful as an individual. That she understands her power and how to use it.”

Greeting each morning with a family breakfast, Rutherford says that she will often take Hermés to school or to a play date. Both mother and son “love to dance to music,” she reveals, and Hermés also enjoys spending time with Helena.

Their day winds down with dinner and a bath, followed by a cartoon. “We cuddle a lot — that’s what gets us through all of this,” Rutherford says.

Playing a divorced mom on Gossip Girl has proven cathartic as well.

“It’s inspiring to play a character who doesn’t always have the right reaction,” she explains. “I think the best thing we can do for our kids is to work on ourselves.”

Adding that “if we’re healthy and happy and feel fulfilled, we’re better moms,” Rutherford says she strives to ensure that Hermés and Helena always “know that they’re loved.”

“When I’m with them, I’m fully present. I’ve noticed that when I get a phone call, suddenly things get louder in the house. So I call back later. Our kids want our attention — and they deserve it.”

As for those struggling with mom guilt, Rutherford suggests introspection. “Figure out how you can help remedy the situation,” she explains.

“Maybe it means making sure your baby is well cared for. You need to figure out what kind of mom you want to be and then find a way to be that mom. My mom worked, but it felt like she was always there for us.”

When she leaves for the set, the actress admits there are occasionally “tough moments” when Hermés will hold her leg and plead with her to stay.

Instead of rushing out the door, Rutherford says she will stop and the two talk things over. “I tell him, ‘I need you, too,’” she reveals.

“When he acts out, I don’t meet his upset with more upset. I give him a hug and say, ‘What can I do?’ and I help him find the words to express what he’s feeling.”

Brooke Burke Takes Her Kids on an African Adventure

How far would you go for love?

Brooke Burke recently traveled across continents to reunite with fiancé David Charvet after five weeks apart as he films the French reality show La Ferme Célébrités in South Africa.

The part of the journey that would make many parents tremble in fear? Burke brought along the couple’s two young children – Heaven Rain, 3, and Shaya Braven, who just turned 2 earlier this month.

“It was a really ambitious trip to take 2-year-old and a 3-year-old to Africa for four days,” the Dancing With the Stars cohost, 38, admits.

“Everybody told me I was nuts! People would rather die than take two toddlers on a flight overseas, but I think it comes down to what you do for love.”

“We spent five weeks apart — he really needed to see the family and we really needed to see him,” explains Burke. “Honestly, I would have gone further. It was incredibly romantic as much as it was adventurous, but it was really important.”

Which part of their African adventure was the family’s favorite? Getting up close and personal with the local wildlife, the former Wild On… host says — even if it means the local zoos will no longer hold much allure for the Charvet children.

“I always wanted to go on a safari. I thought I would wait ’til my children were a ‘appropriate age,’” Burke says. “[But] there is no ‘appropriate age’ in my opinion. They had an amazing time — I don’t know how I’ll ever take them to the zoo again!”

Jaime Pressly Admits Potty Training Is ‘Not Going Very Well’

Roger Karnbad/Celebrity Photo

Every day seems to bring with it a new milestone for 2 ½-year-old Dezi James — son of actress Jaime Pressly — except for an very important one.

“He’s in the process of potty training, which is not going very well,” the former My Name Is Earl star admits. “Boys for some reason don’t like to go on the potty.”

“I thought it was just my son, but it’s not,” Pressly, 32, notes.

“It’s the majority of men. Sorry, little boys. Babies. Although I do think that if men had the opportunity to just go in a diaper and let someone else clean it they would.”

That theory is based on her own experiences with Dezi.

“He looks at his little girlfriend — who is his age and is potty trained completely — and he doesn’t understand,” the actress says. “[He asks], ‘Why you don’t let Mommy clean it?’ Like it’s taken some time out of his day.”

Adding that “hopefully by the time this [interview] comes out he will be fully potty trained,” Pressly says that Dezi has a list of other accomplishments to be proud of.

“He speaks fluent Spanish and English, and he’s bouncing off walls like any other 2 ½-year-old boy.”

Padma Lakshmi: My Life Has Changed from Night to Day

Albert Michael/Startraks

Padma Lakshmi’s on-and-off relationship with venture capitalist Adam Dell, who has been identified as the father of her newborn daughter Krishna Thea, is a topic the Top Chef host prefers to keep private — but the one person she is eager to talk about is her baby girl, now 4 weeks old.

“She’s very independent and very funny. She’s a good communicator and is very witty already,” Lakshmi told PEOPLE at a launch event for Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers with Dry Maxm, which was the perfect party for the new mom to attend.

“The girl changes her underwear like you would not believe,” said Lakshmi.

“She’s a big eater like her mom, so she has to go. We go through about 10 Pampers a day.”

Lashkmi is thankful she doesn’t have to juggle motherhood with her hosting duties on Top Chef just yet.

“Right now I’m not working, [but] when I go back to work I’ll have her with me,” she said. “[My life] is totally centered on my nursing schedule. I sleep in short spurts. It’s pretty intense, but I’m lucky.”

After years of struggling with endometriosis, a medical condition which affects the female reproductive system, the glowing mom, 39, describes giving birth as a “burst of joy.”

“I can only speak for myself obviously, but I don’t think you have cognitive thought [when you see your baby for the first time],” Lakshmi explains.

“It’s not a conceptual thing that you put into words. It’s almost like you don’t think, you just feel. Your heart just explodes with love. My life has changed from night to day.”
